LOVE IN UNIFORM
A SCANDALOUS LIAISON
LOVERS IN UNIFORM
The young woman naval officer, a Lieutenant, parks her scooter and begins strolling to her workplace in the navy shore institution, a stone frigate.
The moment she enters her office, she sees her boss, the pinnacle of the Schooling Department, a middle-aged Commander with a salt and pepper beard.
Like her, he too is a “schoolie” landlubber in white uniform, though he is 15 years her senior and the senior-most Schooling Officer on the bottom.
Additionally, he doesn’t ask them to sit down down.
He appears to be like on the young lady naval officer and asks her, “Where the hell had been you final night ”
“Don’t give me bullshit – I care two hoots whether you wish me or not. I want to know who was that man sitting right subsequent to you – the bugger with whom you had been indulging in a disgusting public display of affection – they call it PDA – don’t they ” the Commodore says.
“You shut up. Did I ask you ” the Commodore scowls on the Schoolie Commander, who begins trembling inside.
The Commodore appears to be like at the young girl Lieutenant and barks out loudly, “Speak up, will you Who the hell was that man with whom you have been shamelessly making out with And that too in public Bloody PDA or whatever they call it!”
“Sir, he’s a friend,” the woman naval officer says.
“Friend My bloody foot! The bugger is a sailor,” the Commodore shouts.
“Sir, he is a Chief Era …”
“I know he is a bloody Period. He was on the final ship I commanded.”
“Sir, he’s Chief Petty Officer,” the lady navy officer says.
“So Does that make him a bloody officer Now you listen to me clearly – I won’t have my officers shacking up with sailors…” the Commodore bellows.
“I informed you to shut your bloody entice, didn’t I ” the Commodore barks at the Commander (Ed).
Then the Commodore looks on the younger lady navy officer and asks her, “How have you learnt this man ”
“Sir, we are childhood buddies,” she says.
“You are childhood mates with a sailor How is that possible ”
“Sir, we have been neighbours, we went to the same school – he was my elder brother’s classmate. And our fathers had been good buddies – they had been from the identical hometown. Sir, our fathers had been in the navy,” she says.
“Your fathers had been officers in the navy ”
“No Sir – our fathers had been sailors – they retired as Master Chief Petty Officers,” the woman navy officer says.
“Oh. So that you grew to become a naval officer and your bloody boyfriend joined as an Period,” the Commodore says.
“Why the hell didn’t your boyfriend join as an officer ”
“Sir, he tried for the NDA after school however could not clear the exam – however he was chosen as an artificer apprentice. His father was retiring that 12 months and he told him to join as an apprentice – his father was in a rush for him to hitch and settle down in life.”
“And you did your graduation and joined the navy as a bloody schoolie ”
“Yes, Sir,” joey essex white stone island jacket the lady naval officer says.
“Anyway, call it destiny, call it luck – however remember one factor – you might be an officer and you can not fraternize with sailors. Is that clear ” the Commodore says.
“Sir, he plans to quit the navy and join the service provider navy as a marine engineer officer.”
“And when the hell is that going to happen ”
“After 5 years, Sir – the second he finishes his 15 year contract,” the woman naval officer says.
“That’s a good distance off. Now you hearken to me carefully – so long as you’re a naval officer and he is a sailor within the navy, you aren’t to fulfill him or maintain contact with him in any way – you are to not have any kind of relationship or friendship with him – is that clear ” the Commodore says firmly.
“Sir, please sir – he is more than a good friend – we’re considering of getting married,” the lady naval officer says.
“You need to get married to a sailor Are you bloody crazy I hope he is not screwing you – that’s the last bloody factor we want – officers and sailors fornicating with one another!” the Commodore yells.
“Sir, please don’t use such foul language…” the lady officer says.
“Oh! So that you don’t like foul language. Okay, young lady – I’ll discuss to you in plain and simple language that you can perceive. Now hear rigorously – when you don’t do as I say – in the event you meet that sailor once more – you may be in deep bother – we are going to throw the ebook at you,” the Commodore says menacingly.
“The Navy Act – I counsel you buy a duplicate – it’s out there at any bookstore which sells law books. Of course, there could also be a replica in our library too. And be sure to learn Chapter VIII – Articles of Conflict.”
“Articles of War Sir, but there isn’t any warfare occurring.”
“The Articles of Conflict are a set of rules – the statutory provisions in the Navy Act that regulate and govern the conduct and behaviour of officers and sailors of the navy – and since you might be within the navy, they apply to you too – they usually very much apply to that high-and-mighty Chief Petty Officer – that bloody boyfriend of yours. We are going to see to it that each of you are punished severely,” the Commodore says menacingly.
“Sir, but what flawed have we performed We are just in love with each other. And what is his fault Sir, I don’t want you to hurt him in any means,” the lady officer pleads.
“You are asking me what fallacious have you ever carried out. I instructed you, didn’t I You are an Officer. He is a Sailor. And an Officer cannot fall in love with a Sailor – that is what is wrong. You might be both are responsible of fraternization – so we’ll cost you both – and both of you might be prone to face courtroom-martial,” the Commodore warns the lady officer.
“Court-martial Sir, please. You’re speaking as if we have damaged the regulation, as if we now have committed some grave offence,” the lady officer says, trembling with trepidation.
“Sir. Please tell me. How is our conduct prejudicial to good order and naval self-discipline You need to charge us with breaking self-discipline simply because we went out together on a date ”
“There is not any private life when you join the navy. You better fall in line and behave or you both will be charged and punished – and for you there may be one more thing.”
“What, Sir ”
“Since you’re an officer, you can be additionally charged with scandalous conduct unbecoming the character of an officer.”
“Scandalous Conduct unbecoming the character of an officer ”
“Yes, conduct unbecoming of an officer. That’s section 54 (2) of the Navy Act – go and verify it up. I informed you we are going to throw the ebook at you should you don’t behave your self,” the Commodore says trying the Lady Lieutenant in the eye.
Then the Commodore looks at the Schoolie Commander and says, “As for you, in the event you don’t stop her from persevering with this nonsense, we’ll charge you with abetment of all of the offences she is committing – and you may say goodbye to your profession.”
“Abetment ” the flabbergasted Schoolie Commander asks.
“Go and browse Section 76 of the Navy Act,” the Commodore says to the Schoolie Commander.
The Schoolie Commander starts trembling, and he mumbles, “Yes, Sir.”
The Commodore warns the Schoolie Commander, “I assure you that if this hanky-panky does not cease instantly – all of you may be in large trouble – you – the sailor boyfriend – and particularly you, young lady,” the Commodore says, turning to the younger lady naval officer and repeating his last phrases, “yes, especially you, Lieutenant – you will be in real deep bother – they might even throw you out of the Navy – dismissed with disgrace.”
Whereas the Commodore commanding the stone frigate is reading the riot act to the young woman naval officer, the Captain of the frigate (the ship on which the younger woman’s lover, the Chief Petty Officer, is borne) is acting with velocity and dispatch.
Yes, the Captain of the ship is taking swift action on the Lady Lieutenant’s boyfriend, her “lover boy” sailor.
Next morning the young lady naval officer is sitting in a prepare on her solution to take up her new appointment as the Training Officer of a small naval base in a remote place in the back of past.
Hopefully, distance will make their ardour cool off.
In true navy type, a clumsy downside has been neatly solved.
As she sits within the dashing practice heading in the direction of her new vacation spot, the heartbroken young girl naval officer remembers the consoling words of her ex-boss, the Schoolie Commander, who had come to see her off on the railway station: “The Navy is a System – and you need to never fight against the system – as a result of the system at all times wins!”
Within the Defence Companies, “Fraternization” is prohibited because it is considered to be prejudicial to good order and discipline.
Strictly speaking, prohibition of Fraternization should apply to all Army Personnel – both to Officers and to PBOR (Personnel Under Officer Rank which embody all Troopers, Sailors and Airmen).
Nonetheless, within the Indian Armed Forces, a whole lot of leniency is shown as far as relationships between senior male officers and junior female officers are concerned (despite their difference in rank).
Strictly speaking, it is.
However, in apply it’s not handled as “fraternization”.
In fact, “brother officers” are permitted to marry “sister officers” (sure, male officers are allowed to marry feminine officers)
There are various “in-service couples” in the armed forces and this development of DIFC (Double Income Fauji Couples) is growing in all the three companies.
Someone even stated that the Military, Navy and Air Drive encourage marriages between uniformed “Fauji” officers by offering numerous sops like common postings and twin accommodation seniority carry ahead and many others.
Suppose, within the Navy, a male Commander marries a feminine Lieutenant, or in the Army, a male Lieutenant Colonel marries a female Captain, or in the Air Drive, a male Squadron Chief marries a female Flight Lieutenant – is it not a case of “fraternization”
Surprisingly, marriages and intimate relationships between officers usually are not considered fraternization within the Indian Armed Forces.
It is okay for a male officer to have an “unduly acquainted relationship” (marriage) with a female officer, regardless of their distinction in seniority.
However, what is going to happen if a female defence officer desires to marry a male soldier, sailor or airman
For instance, will the Military enable a feminine Major to marry a male JCO
Like in the story above, will the Navy enable a feminine Lieutenant to marry a male Chief Petty Officer
If officers can marry, date, romance or have relationships with other officers, why prohibit relationships between officers and PBOR (Personnel Under Officer Rank)
Strictly speaking, fraternization includes officer-officer relationships as properly.
However, it appears that the definition of “fraternization” has been tweaked to apply solely to relationships between officers and PBOR (troopers, sailors, airmen) which are thought of taboo.
As society turns into more trendy and progressive, issues may change.
At current, the “class system” remains to be prevalent in India, both in the Defence Companies and even in the Civilian Bureaucracy.
All over the place, there are two courses – Officers and Non-Officers.
Coming again to life in army uniform, will class boundaries ever break down – not less than as far as “fraternization” is concerned
Possibly it can occur sometime.
Till then, “fauji” love stories that cross the class barrier could have sad endings – like the story of the unwell fated Lovers in Uniform. In case you share this post, please give due credit score to the writer Vikram Karve
